For those a little braver with colour, you might take more inspiration from Yves Klein and the blue that defined his career. Even if the name Yves Klein passes you by, you’ll probably recognise at least one of his works. The French artist specialised in painting from the 1950s to the early ‘60s, often using single colours in his works. Klein played an important part in the development of performance art too, covering nude models in paint and having them ‘paint’ their way across the various canvases. He became known for his work with a particularly striking blue, heavily reliant on ultramarine, which is now recognised as IKB or International Klein Blue.

We’ve got a selection of furniture, lighting, and rugs that fall somewhere between Classic and International Klein Blue so we’ve curated a small edit. We hope you’ll be inspired to bring some blue into your space this year.

This collaboration with celebrated installation artist John Lyall takes its inspiration from the Meccano toys which became popular playthings for children in the mid 20th century. Lyall describes the "rugs with holes" as his "most minimal artwork; they are irrevocably Meccano, they hover between a colour presence on a floor space, and a conversation with an actual scale metal piece of an engineering toy". Dilana has been hand crafting New Zealand's most luxurious rugs for over 35 years. Since opening their Christchurch based Workshop in 1980, the company has successfully collaborated with many leading contemporary artists. The Dilana legacy can be seen in some of the most distinguished homes, commercial buildings, art galleries and museums throughout the world.
