Growing up in New Zealand, we always celebrated Labour Day with Summer's first barbeque and a gathering. Now that the weather matches up with the concept of outdoor entertaining we're inclined to do just that. Adding some Rosé or beer to the equation, maybe some of our favourite cheese board additions and it's sounding like a pretty nice afternoon in the sun to us.

As a maker from Norway, it certainly isn't summer right now in that part of the world but it's a brand that knows how to celebrate tradition. Ildhane, a candle holder crafted from cast iron, was the first item to be developed for the Nedre Foss collection. Ildhane has an expressive shape that resembles a bird with a handsome tail. ‘Ild’ is Norwegian for fire and ‘hane’ translates to rooster.

Ildhane was the first item to be developed for the Nedre Foss collection. Ildhane has an expressive shape that resembles a bird with a handsome tail. ‘Ild’ is Norwegian for fire and ‘hane’ translates to rooster.
As with most projects from Anderssen & Voll, Ildhane was born as a hand sketch. The sketch was translated into a computer model which then was printed in 3D. This process of printing, making subtle changes and then reprinting was looped until the designers felt absolutely confident about the shape.
Norwegian for waterfall, the Vannfall Jug was released at the 2019 Oslo Design Fair. Mouth-blown glass creates a dynamic ripple that imitates running water even when the jug is not in use.

The Monoblokk Vase embodies one of Nedre Foss’ core values: to make solid objects with one material running throughout a continuous shape. The stretched and narrow form of Monoblokk encourages you to arrange your flowers, twigs, branches or foliage differently than you would in a conventional vase.

Vannfall Jug's mouth-blown glass creates a dynamic ripple that imitates running water even when the jug is not in use.
A large ring of opaque colour is suspended by a smaller cup of almost-clear glass. While designed as a candle holder, Sirkel looks just as good empty where it can catch the light. Sirkel was first sketched by Anderssen & Voll in 2013. It took them four years to find the right glassworks to realise their design, which had to be pressed glass rather than blown.

The Nunatak Candle Holder shape can be interpreted in many ways, resembling architectural structures or nature; like deer antlers. The name ‘Nunatak’ reflects it’s geological inspiration: a hill or mountain completely surrounded by glacial ice.
Beginning with hand drawn sketches and cardboard models the process continued with a clay model built in the studio workshop. The analog and manual work is present in the final product with its marks by the hands and tools used for the sculpting.
