Avis HIggs 'Kowhai D22' Rug by Dilana.

A rug can be the starting point for a room. Its colours find their way into the furniture, its edges define a place to gather, and its texture changes how the space feels. With Dilana, there is also an artist’s imagination to live with. That is a compelling combination for us at Good Form.

Established in Christchurch in 1980, Dilana has built a distinctive practice around the meeting of artists and rug makers. The process asks how an idea might change when it is expressed through wool: a line becomes a raised edge, a brushstroke becomes a field of texture, and a composition is experienced from above and underfoot.

The collection brings together very different artistic voices. Our selection includes work by John Reynolds, Avis Higgs, Chiara Corbelletto, Darryn George, Martin Poppelwell and many others. That breadth makes it possible to choose a rug with the same curiosity you would bring to choosing a painting.

A work to build a room around

Start with the work that catches your attention, then consider its scale in the room. Allow enough space to appreciate the composition, including the parts that will sit beneath furniture. A favourite colour can connect the rug to a chair or an artwork without making the room feel overly coordinated.

The artist’s design remains central. Some Dilana works have restrictions on changes to size or colour, so customisation needs to be considered individually and may require the artist’s approval. We can help you explore the options for the particular work you love.
