Choosing a floor lamp begins with a question: what do you want the light to do? Gino Sarfatti’s Models 1081 and 1095 offer two different answers, and looking at them together makes the distinction especially clear.
Designed in 1959, Model 1081 belongs to the Le Sfere family. A single opaline glass sphere sits on a slender steel structure, becoming a visible point of diffused light. Its outline has an appealing simplicity, with the glowing form held above the floor.
The later Model 1095, designed in 1968, takes a different approach. A small cup sits at the top of a fine stem to provide indirect light. The original explored the possibilities of halogen technology; Astep’s reissue uses LED lighting.

Model 1081 Floor adds to the luxurious depth and versatility of Le Sfere collection. The strong visual presence of the floor light is a case study in balance. A single luminous sphere rests delicately on the black finish steel stem and base, serving as an ornamental structure.
Alone, the lamp stands as a solitary sculpture, in pairs a composition emitting a warm and diffused light. The floor light comes in two heights, 168cm and 182cm.
Choose the effect you want to live with
Model 1081 makes the illuminated sphere part of the composition. It can introduce a clear focal point beside seating or at the edge of a room. Model 1095 places more emphasis on the effect of indirect light, with a particularly spare physical presence.
Neither choice needs to determine the whole lighting scheme. Consider what is already in the room: a reading light, pendant or wall lamp may be doing another job. Think about the view at seated height and how the space feels in the evening, as well as the silhouette of the lamp during the day.
