LT8 Floor Lamp.

A tall light can change the way you read a room. It draws attention to the height of the space and creates a relationship with the wall behind it. Osvaldo Borsani’s LT8 does this with a remarkably economical structure.

Borsani designed LT8 for Tecno in 1954, presenting it at the tenth Milan Triennale. Its extruded aluminium structure and brass legs give it a clear material identity. Astep’s reissue updates the original fluorescent lighting with an integrated, dimmable LED module.

The light can be directed towards the wall, making the surrounding architecture part of its effect. We like that the lamp offers a strong vertical gesture while leaving much of the view around it open.

LT8 Floor Lamp
The LT8 lamp, originally designed for Tecno in 1954 and now reissued by Astep, features a flexible, dimmable LED module and adjustable light direction. Available in two heights, it suits both public and private spaces, serving as a sculptural or landscape lighting element.

LT8 was conceived in 1954 for Borsani’s newborn company Tecno, that would come to revolutionise the world of contract furniture, and presented at the X Triennale in Milan. In 1957 the design of LT8 was deposited by Tecno S.p.A. as an ornamental and utility model to the Patent Office.

In Astep’s reedition the fluorescent tubes have been updated with an embedded dimmable LED module. The design is as flexible as it is beautiful. You can direct the light source in any angle and orient it to where you want against the wall. The lamp comes in two heights, 2300-2900mm and 2900-3500mm, to fit a wide range of spaces, public and private. Alone it stands as a sculpture; in pairs it becomes a landscape of light.

Think about the room as well as the lamp

LT8 asks for a little planning. Its two height ranges are 230–290 cm and 290–350 cm, so ceiling height is an essential starting point. Consider the wall finish, the furniture nearby and where the lamp will be seen from across the room.

A restrained setting gives the design room to work. Alongside a low sofa or a broad cabinet, a tall line can introduce a different rhythm. Dimming lets you adjust the intensity for the moment, whether the room is in everyday use or settling into the evening.
