Designed by David Thulstrup for Astep in 2023, Isol combines an aluminium structure with a fabric diffuser using Snowsound technology. The textile has acoustic absorption properties, giving it a purpose beyond softening the appearance of the light.
The result has a restrained, cylindrical form. The fabric and supporting rings are easy to understand, yet the object has enough presence to hold its own beside furniture. We like the way it introduces a softer material into rooms dominated by timber, glass or stone.

Produced in Italy, the Isol Floor Lamp is the result of high-precision work and technological advancement. The patented Snowsound Fibre textile lends the lamp outstanding sound-absorbing qualities and acoustic performance. The fabric is completely recyclable while carrying a Greenguard Gold certification for being a low emitting product that contributes to improve indoor air quality.
A seamless transparency is created, while embracing the die-cast aluminium rings, allowing the lamp to melt into the scenery. Part sculpture, part acoustic solution, and part light source, Isol can be used in a variety of combinations and in private and public environments as an aesthetic way of bringing acoustic properties into a space. Alone, it convinces through quiet authority offering a sense of privacy. In multiples, its distinctive character is enhanced — in the suspension version furthermore by connecting the rings to extend lighting and noise-absorbing power. The Isol Floor Lamp offers a freestanding way to bring the design into a seating area. The Isol Pendant Lamp lifts the same idea overhead, where it can become part of the room’s larger composition.
