Anker Candle Holder
The ‘Anker’ Candle Holder is a pillar candle stick in cast iron from Oslo-based studio Anderssen & Voll for Nedre Foss. The form is evocative of brutalist designs, or a pile of logs stacked for a bonfire. There are similarities between ‘Anker’ and tripod vessels carved from Basalt stone dating back to the bronze ages.
The name ‘Anker’ is the Norwegian word for anchor, reflects its robust form and generous weight.
Beginning with hand drawn sketches, the design process took two years of development. All the different directions were 3D-printed in full scale and painted in a warm black hue to mimic the cast iron. Anker is made in Sweden from 5150g of GG25 iron seasoned with rapeseed oil at 290 degrees Celsius to obtain a finish that will endure a long life.
