Sculpture – Tree – Ceramic Wall Relief
This crackle-glazed ceramic relief by Gidon Bing has a calm, reductive quality, where form is built through softened recesses, raised edges, and carefully balanced negative space. The work feels shaped as much by removal as by addition, with the surface pressed, carved, or modelled into a quiet rhythm of vertical and rounded forms.
The glaze is central to the piece. Its fine crackle pattern gives the surface a subtle tension, contrasting with the smooth, rounded modelling beneath. Light gathers along the raised edges and falls into the recessed areas, allowing the form to shift gently as the viewer moves around it.
Rather than relying on detail, the work holds its strength through restraint: a limited palette, a compact wall-mounted format, and a clear relationship between surface, shadow, and volume. It feels tactile and architectural, but still soft and handmade.
