Mayice Studio finds extraordinary possibilities in familiar materials. Founded in Madrid by architects Marta Alonso Yebra and Imanol Calderón Elósegui, the practice brings together architecture, product design and a fascination with light. Their work combines hands-on experimentation with technical precision, creating objects whose character emerges through the way they are made and experienced.

Filamento sprung from the observation of how light passes through glass.

For Mayice, a material is a starting point for discovery. The studio looks closely at its history, behaviour and potential, developing ideas through prototypes and conversations with craftspeople. Their architectural training gives them a feeling for scale, from the small detail of a connection to the atmosphere of a whole room.
Glass has become a particularly rich field of exploration. An early lighting commission with Spain’s Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja brought the designers into close contact with the factory’s artisans and its archive of moulds. Working alongside the glassmakers, they explored new compositions from existing forms and discovered how a carefully placed light source could reveal the glass in unexpected ways.
That curiosity continues in Filamento for Astep. Its changing glass profile shapes the passage of light, producing the impression of a luminous thread suspended within the transparent form. The collection’s Vertical, Horizontal and Double configurations carry the idea into different spaces, from a single pendant above a table to a more expansive architectural composition.
Across their wider practice, Mayice has collaborated with brands including LZF, Gandia Blasco and GAN, exploring lighting, furniture and textiles. What draws us to their work is the pleasure of looking again: a familiar material can reveal a new quality, and a precise construction can produce an unexpectedly delicate effect.

A fine line of light, suspended within a changing silhouette of glass. As we introduce Filamento by Mayice Studio for Astep at Good Form, there is another reason to look closely: a nomination for Lamp of the Year at the Design Awards 2026.
