New Zealand Modern Collection
At the heart of Good Form there has always been a love for local modernist design. Each year we collect and curate rare New Zealand pieces from the mid-20th century and showcase them together in a special Mr Bigglesworthy 'NZ Modern Collection' collection.
A recent collection was photographed at Thom House, designed in 1954 by James Hacksaw of the celebrated mid-century Architectural firm Group Architects. This early avant garde home is located in the Auckland suburb of Morningside and owned by friends Jed and Christy. It was the perfect setting for inspired design from the NZ Modern Collection.
Gallery Collaborations
Good Form is proud to collaborate with some of this countries leading fine art galleries. A collaboration with the Laree Payne Gallery for the NZ Modern Collection is a recent highlight.
The concept images and exhibition included two artists, Rachel Hope Peary and Chauncey Flay. Both artists approach their practice with a focus on materiality, form, clean lines and with a keen sculptural sensibility – a natural fit with modernist design pieces from Mr Bigglesworthy.
On Location
Over the years we have had the privileged opportunity to meet passionate design collectors throughout New Zealand. These friends have given us the opportunity to have access and insights into many coveted mid century homes from leading Architects of the day.
This elegant linear masterpiece sits at the top of a steep site which allows spectacular views over the city. The house was built in 1966 by gifted architect Ken Albert for a University lecturer and his family.
Unlike the houses around it, McClew house features a bold pavilion-style form with expansive floor to ceiling glass, open plan living and cantilevered balconies. It’s a daring statement of design and an important example of New Zealand’s mid-century architectural legacy.
