John Lyall is a significant contemporary artist with an extensive exhibition and publication record. He is represented in private and public collections throughout New Zealand; including Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington and the Rotorua Museum of Art and History.

John Lyall, born in Sydney, Australia has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Sydney College of the Arts. He moved to New Zealand in 1983 and obtained a Masters in Fine Arts, First Class Honours Sculpture from the University of Auckland in 1993/4, receiving the Fowlds Memorial Prize for pre-eminent Fine Arts Student at Elam.
Lyall's collaboration with Dilana resulted in a playful commemoration of the model construction system ‘Meccano’ invented in 1898 by a Brit.
