'Originals' Butterfly Chair – Ercol

'Originals' Butterfly Chair – Ercol

from 1,075.00

Maker: Ercol
Designer: Lucian R Ercolani
Year: 1958

The voluptuous curves on this design create an intrinsically eye-catching chair. The inherent springiness in the bent plies of the seat and back and the sculpted recessed shape, as well as the moulded wing shaped back provide a comfortable sit.

First launched in 1958 the Butterfly chair is just as fresh today. With distinctive curved bent plies, reminiscent of the profile of a butterfly’s wings, the butterfly chair is one of ercol’s most iconic designs. The chair goes wonderfully with the 382 Plank table or Treviso Desk.

Made by Ercol

Ercol was founded in England in 1920 by a young Italian, Lucian Ercolani. His simple goal was to make furniture that was well designed and made in a good working environment by craftsmen who took real pride in their jobs. Today, Ercol remains a family owned company committed to protecting and sharing its highly celebrated legacy.

Design has always been at the heart of ercol’s rich history – design for comfort, design for function and design for beauty.

Designed by Lucian R. Ercolani

Lucian Ercolani, or the "Old Man" as he is affectionately know in the company, was born in Italy in 1888. Lucian's family moved to London in the 1890s. There he went to night school at the Shoreditch Technical Institute where he studied drawing, design and the theory and construction of furniture. His designs for Ercol have received the coveted Design Guild Mark and become icons of the modern era.
